Traffic within the Old Town

Traffic within the Old Town quarter is regulated by special rules: The area of the Old Town is divided into three zones:

  1. Pedestrian Zone
  2. Limited Access Zone
  3. Vehicular Traffic Zone

There are periodical changes to the traffic regulations within the Old Town connected with the tourist season. (In the off-season more streets are accessible for vehicular traffic).

In accordance with the traffic regulations within the Old Town, the following restrictions apply:

  • no vehicular traffic, traffic sign "B-1"
  • no entry for heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 t of weight, traffic sign "B-5"
  • no stopping (clearway), traffic sign "B-36"

The above restrictions do not apply to the emergency service vehicles of: Fire Department, Police, Toruń Municipal Police, Ambulance Service, Waterworks and Sewage Authority, Heating Company, Electric Company, municipal services while on duty.

Within the Pedestrian Zone the above restrictions also apply to vehicular traffic of disabled persons. The restrictions do not apply to cyclists.

Within the Limited Access Zone the above restrictions also apply to vehicular traffic of disabled persons. The restrictions do not apply to:

  • bicycles
  • vehicles gaining access to a property or vehicles parking on reserved parking space , on so-called "Envelopes"
  • Commercial delivery vehicles between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. provided the parking time does not exceed 30 min.

Within the Traffic Zone there is no entry for heavy good vehicles over 3.5 tons.

The above restrictions do not apply to vehicles that have obtained special permits from the Municipal Road Management Authority.
