Marcin Czyżniewski
Chairman of the Board of the City of Toruń
Born in Toruń on 13 August 1973. He graduated from the State High School of Fine Arts in Bydgoszcz, and then from the Faculty of Historical Sciences of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. He earned a PhD degree in 2003 and qualified as assistant professor in the field of political sciences in 2013.
During his studies he started working in the local press and radio editorial offices. For 10 years he was a journalist at Polskie Radio Pomorza i Kujaw (Polish Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship Radio), Toruń Radio, Ilustrowany Kurier Polski (Illustrated Polish Courier), and the Nowości (Local News) daily. In 2003, he was appointed a spokesperson for the Mayor of Toruń. He worked at the city office until 2007.
Since 2005 he has been working as a lecturer at the Nicolaus Copernicus University, assistant professor at the Department of Eastern Europe at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies. He specialises in issues related to Eastern Europe, especially the Czech Republic, and has authored three scientific monographs and numerous articles on the political and social life in the Czech Republic, and the ethnic situation in Czechoslovakia.

He has been appointed to the City of Toruń Council for the first time. He has been elected as councillor from constituency no. 3 Starówka, Chełmińskie, Wrzosy. He was a candidate on Komitet Wyborczy Wyborców “Michał Zaleski – Czas Gospodarzy” list and received 1,007 votes.
He intends to involve yourself in the construction of a tram line to the JAR housing estate, development of the old town, and increasing the participation of residents in deciding on matters of the city.
