Colours, Flag and Banner

The colours of Toruń are white and blue in a horizontal arrangement, white at the top, blue at the bottom, both of equal size. Boards informing about the offices of the authorities of the city of Toruń and their organizational units are blue, the inscription is white.

The flag of the city of Toruń:

- is two-part: the upper part is white, the lower part is blue.


The flag of the city of Toruń with the crest:

- is two-part: the upper part is white, the lower part is blue. In the middle of its length there is the crest of Toruń. The ratio of the height of the crest to the width of the flag is 1:2. The distance between the crest and the upper and lower edges of the flag is identical. The distance between the crest and the right and left edges of the flag is identical.

The great flag of the city of Toruń is the flag of the city of Toruń with a crest of the size 150x240 cm. It is hoisted only on the flagpole in front of the seat of the authorities of the City of Toruń. Its use is reserved for the authorities of the city of Toruń.

The flag of the city of Toruń is a conventional property of the whole community of the city and can be flown alone or together with the national flag by all inhabitants of Toruń during local and national holidays without the need to obtain an approval, however with due respect. If the flag is flown vertically, the upper edge of the flag must be on the left side. The flag of the city can be used on official vehicles of the City Office when the President or the Chief Councillor officially travel to national and foreign destinations.


The banner of the City of Toruń:

- consists of a bunting, a head and a pole. The bunting is in the shape of a square of 100 cm long sides, weaved on both sides, and with one side fastened to the pole. The other sides of the bunting are edged with gold fringes, 5 cm wide. On the front side of the bunting, which is white and blue, there is the crest of the city of Toruń, under which there is the inscription "The City of Toruń", embroidered with dark red tinsel. Above the crest there is the inscription "I shall survive", embroidered with gold tinsel. The letters of the inscriptions are majuscule. On the back of the banner, which is dark red, there is a salamander (gold with black spots) in gold flames. Under it there is the Latin inscription "Durabo". The letters of the inscription are majuscule, embroidered with gold tinsel. The head of the banner consists of a bush and a top. The top contains corona muralis, of natural brass in colour, supported on three cartouches. On the cartouches there are the crests of the Old Town, the New Town and Podgórz. The poles of the banner, which are 250 cm long, are made of rounded wood (ash wood or oak wood) of 5 cm in diameter. Two-part poles are joined with a metal bush at the height of the bottom edge of the bunting.

At the top end of the pole there is a head, at the bottom end there is a metal foot.

The colour guard consists of an ensign accompanied by two-person’s assistance. The people of the colour guard are dressed in one of the following ways:

  • worthily, according to the composition and girdled over the right arm with a sash in Toruń colours, finished with gold fringes 5 cm wide on both sides, above the fringes are the signs of Toruń;
  • cloaks and headgear in the colours of Toruń, navy blue trousers or skirt. Symbols of Toruń are present on the cloaks.

The banner may be displayed: in the Council chamber, in places where official ceremonies are held, in which participate authorised representatives of the city authorities, during the Chief Councillor’s or the President’s meetings with diplomatic representatives of other countries, the parliament and government of the Polish Republic, when signing agreements and contracts.
