Chains

The chains of the President and the Chief Councillor of the City Council as well as the staff and bell of the Chief Councillor are attributes of authority; they stress a person’s position. They can be used during the City Council sessions, especially the solemn ones, ceremonies during city, state and other festivals of a special character – in Poland and abroad, official events, conferences, meetings and occasional events. The chains are stored in a special case in the City Office.

The chain of the President:

Łańcuch Prezydenta Torunia

is made of an alloy of oxidised silver. It consists of links in the shape of stylised city walls and two medallions representing the busts of Nicolaus Copernicus on the right heraldic side and Samuel Bogumił Linde on the left side.

In the middle of the length of the chain there is the crest of Toruń joined by links with medallions.

   

The chain of the Chief Councillor:

is made of an alloy of oxidised silver. It consists of links in the shape of stylised city walls and two medallions representing the patrons of the Old and New Towns of Toruń: St. John the Baptist on the right heraldic side and St. Jacob the Apostle on the left.

In the middle of the length of the chain there is the crest of Toruń joined by links with medallions. The chain of the Chief Councillor can be worn to a dark outfit which is composed of a satin robe and, alternatively, headgear and gloves.
